Obsidian is a found across the globe from Mexico to New Zealand and Iceland to Argentina. Obsidian is a volcanic glass that is formed as lava from volcanoes rapidly cools. Most obsidian is relatively young as the glass gradually crystallises into minerals over time. It was a highly valued material for weapons as far back as 7000 years ago because of the easily worked, sharpness of its composition. As well as weapons it had another ingenious use.
